The theme of this week's Drawing Challenge was proposed by the friend
Tiny Woof , the word is: Garland . I like it. I wrote something about this, and started doing the illustration, but here it is Saturday, and ... began to rain, so I went to look for a big box where old photographs are stored (you know, the rainy days are apt to look at old pictures) I really wanted a picture were gathered several cartoonists friends one day we share one exhibition, many years ago to show on my Facebook ... and I found this photograph at a carnival during a summer night in my town. This photograph , was taken about the year 1956, the child, it's me ( with the fly open, I was a potential exhibitionist ) the man who is to the right of the photograph, it is my father, and the other two are two friends of my father, but what really matters here is the garlands that you can see behind (a bit in the dark) I remember that it was made with colored papers, I also seem to remember some smells, jasmine summer...
Many years ago ...

I love that you are so relaxed and maybe know your fly is open but don't care one bit!

A good idea to rummage in your old photograph box and to share your memories and the vintage garland.

Hi Roberto! I love your story! And the rainy days are indeed perfect for old photographs. Have a nice Sunday, Leena
that's you Roberto, already a kind of melancholic look in your eyes, already the eyes of a poet.
the garland is there alright but your father's hands get my attention here.
just lovely, xx
wonderful memories! sweet post
Little dream boy wrapped in bigbig hands of grown up men. Little thoughtful poet surrounded by bigbig smiles, you father proud ofcourse. 1956, the year I was born. How time flies (no pun intended) XXWW!!
Oh my what a dear! dear photo! I love the memory you write about the smell and I imagine the scene with garland- I picture you digging out this photo- precious really- you must resemble your mother :)
An arresting image, Roberto and a wonderful memory story. I think the most remarkable thing: the large hands of the man covering the small hands of the boy you. I will remember this.

haha, already a funny and sweet man at such a young age! What a sweet picture of you and I wonder of your memories are correct, with the garland, the colors and the smell. Time travel would be interesting sometimes ;-)

Such a fine looking group of males in this summertime year of 1956. You were (and have always been is my guess) a well loved little at first, and then grown up, person. Your dad clearly adored you. What a splendid photo. When I read your text (before seeing the photo in your post) I laughed so hard you wouldn't believe it. I could hear your voice with perhaps a small accent commenting on a photo that maybe you were just about to hand to me over a cup of tea. Then when I saw the photo I enjoyed that captured moment of summer breezes blowing paper garlands above, even more. Thanks for sharing Roberto. *smiles* Norma, x
What a beautiful image of father friends and son, and a wonderful memory. Thank you for sharing its beauty.
Of course, photos can lie, but your face looks less convinced of the enthusiasm at the situation than the rest of the men in this photo! I'm intrigued by the pants of the man sitting behind you. They appear to be bloused at the bottom, but not in a military style. We've been digging through old photos here this holiday and finding a few gems of our own--always a fun way to time travel. Happy holidays!
Oh, how I love that picture, and that cute little boy, that is YOU! Still a bit shy in front of the camera, maybe this is why the strong hands give safety and tranquillisation. And the exhibitionistic detail, haha, I have to admit it kept my eyes from the garlands at first...great men, all of you!

Wow, so that's where you got your charm! Dang, you dad looks a right dapper in that suit! :D And seriously, how is it possible to straight away recognise that little face as yours - it is yours, a little cheeky and quite a bit of a dreamer? So sweet. :)
The big man in the baggy trousers looks like a Bolshevik dancer! :D
But I do like the feel of this photo - you're all obviously posing for this camera but it looks so un.forced, it's just lovely. And your comment about the yasmine scent ... there's something about smells that can turn an ordinary memory magic, don't you think?
Lovely, lovely story :)
